Dive Insight:
The first Avid Hotel opened five years ago. Now, there are 60 in the Americas region.
The midscale brand features rooms designed for sound sleeping — including blackout shades and sound-reducing design — free breakfast and 24/7 coffee.
“We created this brand to meet the needs of our guests looking for the basics done exceptionally well at a fair price and in convenient locations, so it made sense for us to open a property in one of the most visited states and cities of the world,” Gilbride said in a statement.
New York City is one of the hottest hotel construction markets, according to Lodging Econometrics. At the end of Q2 2023, the city had the most hotel projects under construction of any market in the U.S., with 47 projects, or 8,201 rooms, underway.
Elsewhere in the city, IHG is preparing to open its second Kimpton Hotel in New York in Times Square, amid a flurry of hotel activity in the neighborhood.
Future Avid Hotels are planned for Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Fort Worth, Texas.
