The Hyatt Regency Chicago, the city’s largest hotel and Hyatt’s largest hotel in the world, is undergoing a $102 million renovation, set to wrap this spring.
Situated along the Chicago River, the property features 2,032 guest rooms and suites, all of which will be renovated along with the hotel’s Regency and Crystal Ballrooms.
Upon completion, the guest rooms will be “re-energized” with an open design and contemporary furniture. Additionally, “plush comforts” within the rooms will create an “intentional sense of calm,” Hyatt said in a release. The rooms will also pay homage to Chicago history through art installments and a color palette inspired by the city’s historic greystone residential buildings.
Part of the hotel’s 240,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, the Regency and Crystal Ballrooms will also be reimagined.
The multimillion-dollar renovation comes on the heels of a $168 million lobby and meeting space improvement project the hotel underwent in 2013. Hyatt’s total investment in the property over the last 10 years totals more than $270 million.
In 2023, the upper upscale Hyatt Regency brand expanded across the U.S., opening several properties, including two in the Houston area. The Hyatt Regency Coralville in Iowa, Hyatt Regency Hill Country in Texas and Hyatt Regency San Francisco, also underwent extensive renovations and design refreshes.
