Dive Brief:
- Choice Hotels International opened the third hotel under its midscale extended stay brand Everhome Suites in Nampa, Idaho, the hotel company announced Monday.
- The hotel features the brand's Closer to Home design package, including “local community touches,” Choice said in a release. The prototype will be the brand standard across the Everhome portfolio, the company detailed.
- The Everhome opening comes as Choice strategically expands in the extended stay category to keep up with developer demand, particularly near major medical, manufacturing and logistics facilities.
Dive Insight:
The 122-room Everhome Nampa features brand standard design elements like “locally inspired artwork,” such as a mural at the main entrance, and local food and beverage offerings at its HomeBase market.
According to Ron Burgett, senior vice president of extended stay development at Choice Hotels, the Everhome Suites brand was designed with developers in mind. The hotel — “designed by developers for developers,” according to Burgett — also features traditional extended stay amenities like fully equipped kitchens in the guest rooms and self-service laundry facilities and outdoor space.
The efficiency of extended stay hotels, able to operate with less staff and ultimately drive higher profits, has made the model appealing to developers and investors, experts told Hotel Dive earlier this month.
“Favorable demand fundamentals” have been a driver of Everhome’s success, Burgett said in a statement. The brand has “continued to attract heightened interest from savvy commercial real estate investors,” he added.
Experts also told Hotel Dive that the leading markets for extended stay development and investment this year will be those with prominent medical, manufacturing or logistics facilities.
Everhome Nampa is blocks away from a newly opened Amazon fulfillment center, and the area boasts several healthcare and advanced manufacturing facilities, according to Choice.
During an earnings call earlier this month, Choice Hotels CFO Scott Oaksmith said Everhome Suites has nearly 70 domestic projects in the pipeline, including 20 under construction. More than 10 Everhome hotels are forecasted to open within the next year, Choice detailed in the Monday release.
Other hotel companies expanding in the extended stay space include Marriott International, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Hilton. Extended stay hotels dominated the U.S. hotel construction pipeline in the first quarter of 2024, according to Lodging Econometrics.
