Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will expand to Louisiana with a New Orleans hotel, slated to open summer 2025, Accor announced last week.
The property is located at 1010 Common St. in the central business district, one block from the French Quarter.
The 250-room luxury hotel will occupy 18 stories of the former Bank of New Orleans Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by architects Skidmore Owings & Merrill — known for the Willis Tower in Chicago and One World Trade Center in New York — the building was originally completed in 1971
Mohan Kailas, president of Kailas Companies, described the location as “directly between Bourbon Street and the New Orleans Superdome.”
“The redevelopment of 1010 Common Street marks one of the largest private investments in New Orleans in recent years,” Kailas said in a statement.
New York-based architecture firm Rockwell Group and New Orleans’ Roza Ward Architects will lead the design, which is intended to “breathe new life into the historic property while paying homage to both the past and the future,” according to Accor.
The hotel will feature more than 20,000 square feet of events space spanning ballrooms, meeting rooms, a library and a business center. It will also include a 10,000-square-foot spa.
The property will include three food and drink venues, including an all-day dining option, a lobby lounge and a rooftop bar with a swimming pool and city views.
Parent company Accor is the world’s second-largest luxury and lifestyle hotel operator, with more than 370 luxury hotels and 150 lifestyle hotels, according to a release last month.
Agnès Roquefort, Accor’s chief development officer for luxury and lifestyle, said in January that the group plans to expand further in the space, calling development in the segment “the engine that will help propel the Group forward.”
In 2023, Accor opened another flagship luxury property in the U.S., the 147-room Raffles Boston.
