Dive Insight:
International architecture firm WATG and Phoenix-based Hale Collective led design for hotel renovation, which features mountain vistas and elements inspired by the Sonoran Desert.
In addition to 496 updated rooms, the resort features 18 casitas with kitchenettes and an “ultra-luxe,” two-story accommodation called the Gainey House, offering a private entrance and driveway.
The hotel’s new food and beverage concepts were created in partnership with chef Richard Blais, and include an Italian steakhouse, a small plates restaurant, a southwestern grill and a lobby bar.
An upgraded 2.5-acre outdoor pool complex offers 10 pools, expanded cabanas and a putting green. The resort's outdoor experiences also include golf at the adjacent Gainey Ranch Golf Club, tennis and pickleball courts, jogging paths and bike trails.
Meanwhile, event space renovations — to be completed in January — will triple the property’s Arizona Ballroom, aiming to make the resort “a gold standard for meetings and events in the region.” Nearby Phoenix led U.S. markets for meetings volume growth in October, according to Cendyn.
Ripton Melhado, Hyatt’s senior vice president of field operations, called the resort “a cornerstone of our expanding Grand Hyatt portfolio.”
As part of its strategic luxury and lifestyle push, Hyatt is expanding its Grand Hyatt, Thompson Hotels, Caption by Hyatt and Andaz brands in the Americas region.
In Orlando, Florida, RIDA Development Corporation and Ares Management plan to develop a Grand Hyatt adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Orlando, which the firms purchased in August for $1 billion.
