Dive Insight:
Thompson Houston has opened after Hyatt announced in September it was expanding the brand’s footprint as part of a larger push in the luxury lifestyle space.
The hotel is one of more than 30 luxury lifestyle hotels and resorts Hyatt plans to open across the Americas through 2025. Other brands Hyatt is expanding include Caption by Hyatt, Andaz and Grand Hyatt.
Hyatt had a record year of deal signings in 2023, resulting in an all-time high pipeline of 127,000 rooms worldwide at year-end, the company detailed in a January release.
Among Thompson Houston in that pipeline were Thompson Palm Springs and Thompson South Beach, both expected to open later this year.
Hyatt’s strategy to grow in the luxury and lifestyle segment was bolstered by the “current demand for authentic leisure travel experiences,” Crystal Vinisse Thomas, vice president and global brand leader for Hyatt’s luxury and lifestyle brands, said in a September statement. Hospitality experts previously told Hotel Dive that experience-based travel will be a top trend to watch in 2024.
Hyatt is among other hotel companies expanding in the luxury and lifestyle segment. Earlier this week, Hilton opened the second location of its lifestyle brand Tempo by Hilton in Nashville.
