IHG Hotels & Resorts will open its second Kimpton Hotels property in New York City this fall.
The Kimpton Hotel Theta — named with the eighth letter of the Greek alphabet, a nod to its location near Times Square at Eighth Avenue and West 48th Street — will have 364 guest rooms, including a 1,100-square-foot penthouse.
The 15-story boutique hotel, designed by Morris Lapidus of Miami Modern Architecture, is an adaptive reuse of an existing mixed-use hotel.
Designed to accommodate both business and leisure travelers, the hotel will offer a 24-hour fitness center, access to Public bikes, a grab-and-go market and coffee service in the lobby, approximately 1,100 square feet of meeting space and a 3,200-square-foot rooftop restaurant by TableOne Hospitality “inspired by the Cicchetti bars of the Italian Riviera,” according to IHG. The hotel also will have in-room yoga mats and a no-fee pet policy.
The hotel will serve as a “boutique oasis” where guests can “recharge and reset” amid the city’s bustling theater district, according to Mike DeFrino, managing director of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle Americas division.
The Theta hotel is the second Kimpton property in the city, next to the 292-room Kimpton Hotel Eventi in Chelsea, which opened in 2010. The entire Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants portfolio spans 70 hotels worldwide, with more than 25 slated to open in the next five years.
Hotel management company Highgate will operate Kimpton Hotel Theta.
