Marcus Hotels & Resorts, along with Hempel Real Estate and Robinson Park, officially closed on the acquisition of the Loews Minneapolis Hotel on Monday and announced plans to bring the property under one of Hilton’s growing lifestyle brands.
The 251-key hotel will be immediately rebranded as The Lofton Hotel under Tapestry Collection by Hilton, with Milwaukee-based Marcus Hotels & Resorts managing the property.
With the acquisition and rebranding, Marcus Hotels & Resorts will play “an active part in the continued resurgence of the downtown business and social community” of Minneapolis, the company’s president, Michael Evans, said in a statement.
“Since 1993, Marcus Hotels & Resorts has been invested in elevating the travel and leisure experience in Minneapolis,” said Evans. “The Lofton Hotel’s chic design, incredible location, and ample amenities create a welcoming destination for travelers visiting the Twin Cities and experiencing all they have to offer.”
The property is located near some of the city’s top shopping, entertainment and business districts and is connected via skybridge to the Target Center, a multipurpose arena, according to Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
On-site amenities include more than 15,000 square feet of flexible meetings and events space, a fitness center and multiple dining concepts.
As part of the rebrand, Jim Waldvogel will take over as general manager of The Lofton Hotel. Waldvogel brings more than 30 years of experience to the role, including at the Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington, also managed by Marcus Hotels & Resorts.
Additionally, the hotel has joined the Hilton Honors loyalty program.
The property marks the first Tapestry Collection hotel in Minnesota. Over the last year, Hilton has expanded the lifestyle brand’s portfolio across the U.S., including a hotel conversion in Nashville in July, as interest in the luxury and lifestyle segment grows.
