Dive Insight:
Mark Shalala, senior vice president, upscale development, told Hotel Dive that Choice’s goal for Ascend is to “build out a collection of resort, historic and boutique upscale hotels in highly sought after destinations across the globe.”
“Each property is carefully selected based on the level of quality, service and location. Ultimately, the goal is that every member of the collection delivers a truly authentic, locally inspired experience,” he said.
Mayfair Hotel is adjacent to Broadway's Eugene O'Neill, Ambassador, Gershwin and Barrymore theaters. The property features a restaurant and lounge.
Indy Adenaw, senior vice president and general manager, upscale, said in a statement that Choice will continue to “thoughtfully expand the Collection's upscale offerings to the growing New York City market.”
The Times Square neighborhood and its environs have seen a great deal of hotel activity over the past year, with companies like LuxUrban expanding in the area, and Hilton launching its first-ever Tempo by Hilton in August.
Overall, New York City’s hotel market is in the midst of a rate-driven post-pandemic recovery.
