Dive Insight:
With Placemakr Huntsville at Anthem House, the hospitality company brings its apartment-style hotel experience to “an exciting and growing community,” according to Fudin.
“The rich heritage of Huntsville mixed with the modern investment in business and entertainment makes this a perfect fit with where Placemakr sees opportunities to meet demand for our products,” Fudin said in a statement.
The Placemakr property is located in a $2.2 billion mixed-use project that includes the $40 million Orion Amphitheater, a Trader Joe’s, a Topgolf, roughly 600,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space and a 40-acre public park.
The property will also benefit from Huntsville’s aerospace industry, according to Placemakr. Known as “Rocket City,” the market is home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and Cummings Research Park, the second largest research park in the U.S., per the company.
The aerospace headquarters will drive guest demand from government agency workers based in D.C., including those from NASA or the Department of Defense, according to Placemakr.
The Alabama opening comes amid Washington, D.C.-based Placemakr’s larger nationwide expansion. In January, the company opened a similar apartment-style accommodations property in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In March, it launched a pop-up hotel at a luxury multifamily building in Washington, D.C., and earlier this month, Placemakr debuted in Salt Lake City.
Placemakr is among several hospitality companies that made a concerted push in apartment-style accommodations in Q1 in an effort to keep up with changing traveler demand.
