Dive Insight:
Managed by Reside under the Trademark Collection by Wyndham brand, the pet-friendly hotel, originally built in the 1950s, features amenities such as an outdoor pool, a fire pit, private cabanas, a coffee bar and lounge areas. It will also include Hai Noon, a restaurant led by James Beard Award-winning chef Nobuo Fukuda.
“We’ve revived the Papago Hotel by Reside, preserving its mid-century charm while elevating it with modern amenities and exceptional quality in hospitality,” Lee Curtis, chief executive officer of Reside, said in a statement.
“As we take on management, we're thrilled to bring this unique property into the Wyndham Trademark Collection family, offering our guests the perfect blend of style and comfort, backed by the trusted quality that both Reside and Wyndham are known for.”
The hotel opening follows the launch of an alliance between Reside and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts last year. The 10-year development relationship aims to expand on Wyndham’s extended stay offerings with upscale, residence-style accommodations in top U.S. urban destinations. So far, that deal includes five apartment-style hotels in Washington, D.C., Seattle, Houston and New Orleans.
In November, Reside CEO Lee Curtis told Hotel Dive that the new brand was targeting the top 50 U.S. metropolitan areas for growth and has a “robust” pipeline of more than 60 projects. The following month, Reside appointed Walter “J.R.” Dembiec Jr. to head the development partnership with Wyndham.
In January, Reside and Wyndham opened two new apartment-style hotels in Washington, D.C.: Reside Navy Yard and Reside NoMa.
