San Diego’s Hotel del Coronado will restore and revitalize its historic Victorian building with a $160 million investment, the final phase of Blackstone Real Estate’s $550 million development plan for the property.
Upgrades to the hotel will touch all of its guest rooms, suites and event spaces. The hotel plans to complete renovations in spring 2025.
The redesign aims to ensure that the hotel’s public areas will remain Victorian but see contemporary design enhancements added in bathrooms, furnishings, artwork and tech that elevate the level of comfort. Wimberly Interiors will lead the design in partnership with WATG’s California architecture studio.
Blackstone Real Estate first invested in the hotel in 2018. Since then, the company has “worked diligently to preserve The Del as a National Historic Landmark,” said Rob Harper, Blackstone’s head of real estate asset management, Americas, in a statement. In previous rounds of renovations, Blackstone’s funds added an expanded fitness center, a new main pool, a reimagined spa and an enclave of cottages and villas whose makeover will be unveiled by the end of the year.
Hotel del Coronado has hosted guests on the Southern California beachfront for more than 135 years. It will continue to welcome visitors throughout its revitalization.
