Thompson Palm Springs, part of Hyatt’s luxury Thompson Hotels portfolio, will open late 2023, Hyatt announced Monday. The 168-room lifestyle hotel will be the second Thompson Hotel in California, after Thompson Hollywood.
The property will feature panoramic views of the nearby San Jacinto Mountains and city of Palm Springs.
“Palm Springs has always been a diverse destination where local culture is celebrated, and Thompson Palm Springs will embody this energy by serving as a dynamic home-base for guests, local tastemakers and emerging creatives to connect with each other and what inspires them,” said Jeffrey Miller, who will be the property’s general manager. “We truly desire to be a local’s destination.”
Dallas-based Hall Group is the hotel’s developer, and SMS Architecture worked with interior design firm B2 Architecture on the design. The hotel will feature a modern design, and guest rooms will be situated within bungalows by the two outdoor pools and gardens. Thompson Palm Springs will also include a signature restaurant, indoor and outdoor bars and lounges, a spa and fitness center and roughly 8,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The property will also include over 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space along downtown Palm Springs’ Palm Canyon Drive. Within this, guests will find Hall Napa Valley, a 3,400-square-foot wine-tasting room.
The new opening will further Hyatt’s strategy for international growth in key leisure markets, the announcement said. Thompson Palm Springs will join 18 other Thompson properties worldwide, including in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago and Madrid. The brand plans to expand to Houston, Miami’s South Beach, Monterrey, Mexico, and Shanghai — the brand’s first in Asia-Pacific — by the end of 2024.
