Dive Brief:
- Universal Orlando Resort has opened its latest hotel, Terra Luna, in its soon-to-open Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Florida, Universal Orlando announced Monday.
- The property opened on Universal Boulevard next to its sister — or, as Universal Orlando calls it, “fraternal twin” — hotel, Stella Nova, which opened in January. The hotels each have 750 rooms.
- Both Terra Luna and Stella Nova are co-owned and operated by Loews Hotels, which also plans to open the 500-room Universal Helios Grand Hotel in Epic Universe later this year. The theme park is slated to open May 22.
Dive Insight:
Like its sister property Stella Nova, Universal Terra Luna Resort features guest rooms that can sleep four guests in two queen-sized beds and curved windows inspired by space stations, according to Universal Orlando.
Food and beverage options at Terra Luna include a cafe and market, a lobby bar and a poolside bar and grill. The hotel also offers a fitness center, game room, hot tub, fire pit and Universal Orlando Resort Store.
The third hotel in Epic Universe, Loews’ Helios Grand, is scheduled to open in late May, bringing Universal Orlando’s on-property room count to 11,000, spanning 11 hotels.
Loews and Universal Orlando, which are in a 20-plus-year joint venture, expanded their partnership in 2017 to add more Loews properties to the Orlando resort.
Loews currently owns 50% of Universal Orlando’s Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, Universal Aventura Hotel, Universal Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Universal Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn and Suites and Universal Endless Summer Resort - Surfside Inn and Suites, according to a recent investor report.
U.S. hotel markets with strong business and leisure appeal — including Orlando — are expected to outperform the rest of the country, according to CBRE’s 2025 Global Hotel Outlook. Group business and new theme parks are driving demand to the Florida city, CBRE noted.
