The Westin Atlanta Gwinnett opens today, according to a release shared with Hotel Dive by the hotel’s management and development company, Concord Hospitality.
The 348-room property, located in Atlanta’s Gas South District, is the neighborhood’s first full-service, four-star hotel.
Gas South District is a 118-acre multipurpose campus encompassing an arena, convention center and theater. The Westin Atlanta Gwinnett was developed in partnership with the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau to help further “distinguish Gas South District as a premier destination,” according to the release.
Accommodations include a presidential suite with a private terrace, two “hospitality suites” with terraces and four executive-level and six standard suites.
Guest rooms feature “wellness-enhancing amenities,” according to the announcement, such as Westin’s signature baths and beds. The hotel will be the first in the U.S. to feature the second-generation Westin Heavenly Bed.
The property also has a rooftop bar with 360-degree views and outdoor firepits; a signature restaurant focusing on locally sourced, sustainable ingredients; a Starbucks; and a fitness studio with an indoor saltwater pool.
The hotel includes over 27,000 square feet of meetings and events space with 16 event facilities meant to complement Gas South District’s event capabilities. The hotel’s event spaces can be configured to accommodate groups of up to 800, and a team of on-site wedding planners and a professional event team will be available to assist with conferences, weddings, celebrations and more.
"This state-of-art convention center hotel will offer an unparalleled experience for event planners with its cutting-edge technology and reliability,” said Brian Cornell, CIO at Concord Hospitality, in a statement. “We spared no expense in equipping the center with features such as a lightning-fast fiber network and enhanced continuity measures to prevent interruptions to operations.”
Mark Castriota, the hotel’s general manager, said that the hotel’s location will offer “unmatched convenience for our guests to enjoy an exceptional array of nearby sports, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences.”
Metro Atlanta is currently experiencing a hotel boom. As of the fourth quarter of 2023, the city had the second-largest hotel pipeline in the world, according to Lodging Econometrics.
And the city’s robust meetings and events industry, coupled with high business travel volume, is fueling lodging demand in the metropolitan area, hotel experts previously told Hotel Dive.
Westin Atlanta Gwinnett is the latest convention hotel designed to capture that demand. In January, the 976-room Signia by Hilton Atlanta opened with a similar aim, positioned adjacent to the Georgia World Congress Center.
