The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali unveiled Wednesday a $160 million makeover that fully renovated and rebranded its Ocean Tower into Kūkahi Tower.
The multiyear project touched the tower’s guest rooms, leaving them with a “completely refreshed design aimed at facilitating a calming and rejuvenating stay,” Westin Maui detailed in a press release.
The Kūkahi guest rooms feature curated details like bespoke artwork, printed textiles and woven area rugs designed specifically for the renovation, Westin Maui shared. The design elements — inspired by a poem about “positive energy and wellness” — create a “calming, bright and sophisticated atmosphere,” the resort said.
A 10,000-square-foot social center that will anchor Kūkahi Tower was also added as part of the renovation and is slated to open in April. Named Hana Hou by Westin, the center will include Topgolf Swing Suites, duckpin bowling, arcade games and a bar and lounge with food and beverage offerings.
Property owner Trinity Investment’s in-house asset management and development teams led the renovation and repositioning.
The project wraps several months after Maui was hit by deadly wildfires in August.
Despite early support and relief efforts, hotels and vacation rental properties across the island continued to see a hit to revenues from the event in the fourth quarter of 2023.
