England-based Zeal Hotels will develop a net-zero carbon hotel for InterContinental Hotels Group & Resorts in Exeter, U.K., the company announced Thursday.
The 142-room upscale lifestyle property is aiming for an “Excellent” rating from BREEAM, the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. On-site solar panels will generate all energy for the hotel, and there will be EV charging stations available. The hotel is scheduled to open in Q4 2024 and will be managed by Atlanta-based Valor Hospitality.
The property will also feature locally sourced food and beverage options, a meeting room and a gym. It will be located within Exeter Science Park, a hub for businesses science, technology and medicine.
“A fundamental requirement in the design of our new hotel is that it can be replicated and we are now seeking additional development opportunities in strategic locations throughout the UK,” said Tim Wheeldon, Zeal Hotels’ managing director.
The hotel management company, founded in 2012, aims to acquire strategic hotel sites, developing properties while maintaining ownership of the assets. The Exeter property is the first in Zeal’s newly launched brand, which focuses exclusively on carbon net-zero buildings.
Zeal and IHG did not respond to a question asking which of the company’s brands the property will fall under.
